Garcia Named Academic All-American

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State shortstop Chelsea Garcia has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Softball team, it was announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America. She is officially a member of the First Team, University Division.
Garcia, a Moore, Okla., native, is just the fifth Cowgirl softball player to be named first-team Academic All-American in school history, and the first since Lauren Bay was honored in 2003.
The Cowgirl junior is hitting .337 this season and leads the team in both home runs (12) and runs batted in (53). She has started every game of her career at shortstop, currently 175 games and counting.
Garcia is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and a two-time first-team Academic All-District VI choice. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in secondary education/mathematics with a minor in Spanish at OSU.
Garcia and the rest of the Cowgirls host the Houston Cougars on Friday at 6 pm in game one of the Stillwater Super Regional. The game will be televised by ESPNU. The winner of the best-of-three series this weekend will advance to the Women's College World Series.
