Stillwater, Okla. — Three Oklahoma State Cowgirls were named to the All-Big 12 Softball teams, it was announced today by the league office. Senior second baseman Alysia Hamilton was named All-Big 12 First Team, while senior third baseman Mariah Gearhart and junior shortstop Chelsea Garcia were both named to the Second Team.
Hamilton finished the regular season with a .396 batting average, the second-highest in the Big 12 Conference. She also ranked second in hits with 65 and tied for the league lead with 15 doubles.
Gearhart, the Cowgirls' leadoff hitter, established a school record with 178 career runs scored as well as a career-high 112 stolen bases. She is hitting .365 this season with 47 runs scored, the seventh-most in the Big 12 this season.
Garcia is Oklahoma State's leading home run hitter with 12 this season. She also has 51 runs batted in, the seventh-most by a Big 12 player this season. The Cowgirl shortstop is also an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection and was named first-team Academic All-District VI.
This marks the third all-conference honor for both Hamilton (second team in 2008, first team in 2010) and Gearhart (second team in 2008 and 2009). For Garcia, it was her second-straight second-team award.
Hamilton is just the sixth two-time first-team honoree in OSU history since the Big 12 formed in 1996, joining Jaime Foutch, Leanne Tyler, Kristi Bölle, Ryan Realmuto and Lauren Bay. She is the first back-to-back first-team selection from OSU since Bay was named from 2001-03.
Oklahoma State travels to Knoxville, Tenn., this week to compete in the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Cowgirls open postseason play on Friday afternoon against 19th-ranked Georgia Tech at 3 pm CT.
