Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's 21st-ranked softball team will host the Kansas Jayhawks in a two-game series this weekend. Saturday's game is scheduled for 2 pm while Sunday's first pitch is slated for 1 pm.
Oklahoma State is 30-9 overall this season and 1-3 in Big 12 Conference action following Tuesday's 10-2 run-rule victory over Missouri State. Kansas is 27-12 overall, 0-8 in league play following a doubleheader sweep by the Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday.
The OSU offense is led a pair of seniors and a junior, all infielders. Second baseman Alysia Hamilton is batting .413 this season and has 33 runs scored and 26 RBIs from the three-hole spot in the lineup. Third baseman Mariah Gearhart is hitting .400 with 39 runs scored and is 30 of 31 on stolen bases. She is the all-time OSU career record holder for runs scored with 170 as well as the all-time stolen base record holder (109). First baseman Julie Ward is batting .377 with nine doubles, 11 home runs and 39 RBIs. She is the all-time OSU home run leader with 31.
In the circle, sophomore Kat Espinosa is 15-4 with a 2.29 earned run average and four shutouts. A pair of freshmen — Simone Freeman and Morgan Hawkins — have both thrown well for OSU. Freeman is 8-5 with a 2.02 ERA while Hawkins is 6-0 with a 1.12 ERA.
Oklahoma State is 64-43 all-time against Kansas, including a 16-9 mark in games played in Stillwater. The Cowgirls have won the last four contest and are 26-12 since the Big 12 Conference formed in 1996.
