Wichita, Kan. -- Oklahoma State's 19th-ranked softball team managed just five hits and fell to Wichita State 4-2 here Tuesday evening in non-conference action. The loss ended a three-game winning streak over the Shockers.
After leaving five batters stranded in the first two innings, Wichita State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Hayley Temple doubled and scored on a base hit by Sammie Shook. The Cowgirls responded in the following half inning. Julie Ward doubled to lead off the inning, moved third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Tamara Brown up the middle to make the score 1-1.
The Shockers went up 2-1 in the bottom half of the frame in almost identical fashion. Erin Carney led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. An out later, Carney scored on a base hit by Kiersten Dixon.
Wichita State took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on two hits and a costly Cowgirl error. With a run in and runners on first and second, Rachel Milnark hit a grounder to shortstop. Chelsea Garcia stepped on second and attempted the double play at first. Milnark was safe, and Temple scored from second. On the ensuing play, Carney hit a single to right, Sammy Jo Diffendaffer misplayed the ball and Milnark scored from first.
Garcia hit a solo home run with one out in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-2, but WSU relievers Sloan Anderson and Brianna Smet sat down the final five Cowgirl batters to end the game.
