Norman, Okla. -- Oklahoma's 15th-ranked softball team scored five runs on three home runs and defeated No. 19 Oklahoma State 5-1 here Wednesday evening in Bedlam softball action. Keilani Ricketts threw a three-hit shutout, walking two while striking out 11 Cowgirls.

The Sooners scored two runs in the second on a walk issued to Brittany Williams, followed by a home run to right field by Keilani Ricketts. Two innings later, Haley Nix walked, followed by a bomb by Williams, giving OU a 4-0 lead. A solo homer by Jessica Shults in the fifth gave Oklahoma a 5-0 advantage.

Oklahoma State scored its only run of the game in the top of the sixth. Leadoff hitter Mariah Gearhart started off with a walked and a base hit by Ari Morrison over the third baseman's head put runners on first and second with no outs. A groundout by Alysia Hamilton moved the runners over, and Gearhart scored on an RBI groundout by Chelsea Garcia.

In both the third and sixth innings, the Cowgirls ended scoring threats with inning-ending double plays. OSU had two in the game, improving their league-leading total to 17, just two shy of the school record.

Cowgirl starter Kat Espinosa threw just three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks. Senior Sarah Odom threw three innings, scattering three hits while striking out two and giving up just one run.

Oklahoma State (32-10 overall, 3-4 Big 12) will host the Texas Tech Red Raiders (39-7, 4-6) in a two-game series this weekend. Games are scheduled for 4 pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
