Cowgirls Host 'Horns in Big 12 Action

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's 19th-ranked softball team will host the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns in a pair of games this weekend in Big 12 Conference action. Saturday's game will begin at 2 pm while Sunday's contest will start at noon.
Oklahoma State is 29-7 overall this season and 1-1 in Big 12 Conference action, splitting a pair of games at Iowa State last weekend before defeating Arkansas 1-0 in eight innings on Wednesday. Texas is 29-3 overall and 2-0 in league play following a sweep of Kansas last weekend and a 6-2 victory over Texas State on Wednesday.
The OSU offense is led a pair of seniors and a junior, all infielders. Second baseman Alysia Hamilton is batting .420 this season and has 32 runs scored and 26 RBIs from the three-hole spot in the lineup. She recorded her 200th career hit against Missouri State in her 200th career start. Third baseman Mariah Gearhart is hitting .410 with 38 runs scored and is 27 of 28 on stolen bases. She is the all-time OSU career record holder for runs scored with 169. First baseman Julie Ward is batting .380 with eight doubles, 10 home runs and 37 RBIs. She is the all-time OSU home run leader with 30.
In the circle, sophomore Kat Espinosa is 15-3 with a 1.93 earned run average and four shutouts. A pair of freshmen — Simone Freeman and Morgan Hawkins — have both thrown well for OSU. Freeman is 8-4 with a 1.69 ERA while Hawkins is 5-0 with a 1.01 ERA.
Texas leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State 20-10, although the Cowgirls won the last meeting with UT in Austin, a no-hit shutout by Espinosa as OSU won 1-0.
