Cowboys Surge Into First In Hawaii

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's men's golf team blistered the Waikoloa Kings' Course on Thursday during the second round of play at the Ameri Ari Invitational to move into first place.
The second-ranked Cowboys began the day tied with Georgia Tech and seven shots behind Southern California. However, OSU matched UCLA for the low round of the day, firing a 15-under 273 to stand seven shots clear of the Bruins for the top spot in the team race at the par-72, 7,074-yard layout. The Cowboys have a 36-hole total of 551, 25-under par, while UCLA stands at 558 and Texas Tech is third at 559.
Senior Kevin Tway followed an opening 67 with a 66 during his second round to close the gap on individual leader Daniel Miernicki of Oregon. For the second-straight day, Tway signed a bogey-free scorecard that featured six birdies. The Edmond, Okla., native stands at 11-under 133 and will begin tomorrow's final round two shots behind Miernicki.
Sophomore Drew Page moved up four spots into a tie for sixth place at 7-under 137 after posting a 68 on Thursday. Like Tway, Page carded six birdies on the day with his only blemish being a double bogey at the par-4 ninth.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann bounced back from an opening 73 with a 68 of his own to move up 42 spots into a tie for 23rd place at 3-under 141.
True freshman Talor Gooch carded a 1-under 71 to stand at 143 and tied for 38th place.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Dougherty posted a 77 and finished tied for 73rd place at 147.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. (HST) and will be grouped with UCLA, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech.
