Cowboys In Third At Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, P.R. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 283 team total during its first round at the Puerto Rico Classic on Sunday to stand alone in third place at Rio Mar Country Club.
Coming off their third victory of the year at the Ameri Ari Invitational in Hawaii, the top-ranked Cowboys' 3-under opening round put them five shots off the pace of tournament leader Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets fired a 10-under 278 to lead Alabama by three. The Crimson Tide held down the No. 2 spot with a 281 at the par-72, 6,902-yard layout.
OSU senior Kevin Tway, the event's defending champion, carded a 3-under 69 to finish the day in an eight-player logjam atop the individual leaderboard.
The Edmond, Okla., native started his day on the fifth hole and was even par through his first seven holes before putting together a five-hole stretch that included three birdies and an eagle to get to 5-under par. After bogeys at Nos. 2 and 3, Tway closed with a par at the par-5 fourth to finish among the leaders.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann and freshman Talor Gooch each posted 1-under 71s to come in tied for 15th place.
Junior Peter Uihlein and sophomore Drew Page each signed for 72s to finish among the group tied for 28th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 8 a.m. (AST) and will be grouped with Georgia Tech and Alabama.
