Cowgirls Compete in Cathedral City Classic

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's 19th-ranked softball team will travel to Palm Springs, Calif., this week to compete in the Cathedral City Classic, beginning on Thursday. The Cowgirls will face five teams in three days, including Georgia, the top-ranked team in the country.
OSU is 8-2 this season and coming off a 4-1 weekend at the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic. The Cowgirls are batting .345 as a team and have scored 71 runs in 10 games. They are led by senior Mariah Gearhart who has a .563 batting average as she has gone 18-for-32 in 10 games. She has two doubles, a home run, 16 runs scored and nine stolen bases.
The Oklahoma State pitching staff has a 2.30 earned run average and is led by freshman Simone Freeman. She has a 2.00 ERA, a 3-2 record and 27 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Sophomore Kat Espinosa has a 2.23 ERA, a 4-0 record and 30 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched.
The Cowgirls will open the tournament on Thursday when they play UC Santa Barbara (6-2) at 12 pm and then No. 1 Georgia (10-0) at 2:30 pm. On Friday, OSU will face Fresno State (3-0) at 5:30 pm. The Cowgirls will close out the tournament on Saturday when they play Massachusetts (2-3) at 5:30 pm and Long Beach State (7-2) at 10:30 pm. All times are central.
Oklahoma State is 3-3 all time against UC-Santa Barbara is also .500 against the Georgia Bulldogs with an all-time record of 1-1. The Cowgirls have an all-time record of 7-5 against Fresno State. Oklahoma State is undefeated against UMass and Long Beach State with an all-time record of 2-0 against both teams.
