RIO GRANDE, P.R. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team held its ground for a third-place finish on Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic after carding a closing 279 at Rio Mar Country Club.
The top-ranked Cowboys entered Round Three in third place and maintained their spot after a 9-under final round gave them a 54-hole total of 17-under 847. OSU finished six strokes off the pace of runner-up Georgia Tech and eleven shots behind tournament champion Alabama. The Crimson Tied fired a third-round 274 to finish at 836 and take top honors.
Georgia Tech's James White held on in the individual race with a 68 to finish at 206 and one shot ahead of Alabama's Bud Cauley.
OSU junior Peter Uihlein fired a 7-under 65 to move from a tie for 15th into a tie for fourth place at 209. The Orlando, Fla., native was bogey-free during his third round, carding three birdies on the front side to turn at 3-under 33. Uihlein eagled the par-4 13th and followed with birdies at the 15th and 17th to finish out his day.
For the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, the showing extended his string of top-five finishes in collegiate events to seven-straight starts.
