Stillwater, Okla. – Three Oklahoma State senior student-athletes have been named Seniors of Significance for the 2011-12 academic year by the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. Forty students were chosen in all.
A forward for the women's soccer team, Krista Lopez earned the honor along with Mark Nelson, a distance runner for the men's track and field and cross country squads, and Alice White, a member of the equestrian hunter seat team.
Lopez, a management and accounting major, was also recognized for her 4.0 grade point average and named to the Academic All-Big 12 team earlier this month for the third year in a row. The two-year starter for the Cowgirls has eight goals for the season and 27 career goals, the fifth best in OSU history.
Nelson is pursuing a double-major in aerospace & mechanical engineering and Russian language & literature. He is also a two-time First-Team Academic All-Big 12 honoree.
White, an agribusiness and agricultural communications major, was a team captain in her final two seasons as a Cowgirl. She was also a three-year starter at the Big 12 Championship and Varsity Equestrian National Championships.
The honor recognizes seniors that have brought merit to OSU through outstanding performances in academics, leadership and community service.
A public reception to recognize the winners and their families will be held on November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center.
