Smith Named Midwest Region Coach of the Year

STILLWATER, Okla. - Men's cross country coach Dave Smith has been named the USTFCCCA 2011 Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

Smith has led the second-ranked Cowboys to five team championships in all five events they have competed in this season, including their fourth-straight Big 12 Championship and a Midwest Regional title. They have claimed two individual titles as well.

Since Smith took over as head coach in 2006, he has won the award five times in the last six seasons. He was also named the 2011 Big 12 Coach of the Year earlier this season, marking the fourth-straight time he's earned that award.

He will lead the Cowboys into action one final time this season as they compete for their third-straight national championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 21.
