Oklahoma State held an opponent to the fewest points in the Travis Ford era, and the Cowboys cruised past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi here Friday night in the season opener. Freshman Le'Bryan Nash led OSU with 13 points while fellow freshman Cezar Guerrero added 12.
The Cowboys started the season on a 9-0 run and led by 13 just over 10 minutes into the contest at 17-4. A free throw by Nash with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first period gave OSU a 31-11 lead which the Pokes took into the locker room.
It was much of the same in the second half as the Islanders never got closer than 20 in the second stanza and took a 30-point lead at 69-39 when Guerrero hit a trey with just over a minute to go in the game. The Cowboys committed just one turnover after intermission.
Jéan-Paul Olukemi was the only other Cowboy in double figures with 11. In his first official start, redshirt freshman Michael Cobbins scored seven points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots. Junior-college transfer Philip Jurick did not attempt a shot in the game, but pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Oklahoma State (1-0) will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The game is set to begin at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
