STILLWATER, Okla. – After solidifying its ranking with a team title at the Cowboy Jamboree this weekend, the Oklahoma State men's cross country team has again been voted as the best team in the nation, the USTFCCCA announced today.
The Cowboys, who have remained No. 1 since preseason, are coming off of a first place finish at the Jamboree, which saw them defeat the second-place finisher, then-No. 6 Indiana, by 35 points. They were led by senior Colby Lowe's second-place effort, as he finished in 23:47.96; the ninth-best time in the history of the 8,000 meter Cowboy Jamboree.
The Cowboys, who had three other top-10 finishers in the race, received all but one first place vote in the latest poll.
The poll also has the Cowgirls ranked No. 29. They took the team title at the Jamboree as well, behind a fourth-place finish by sophomore Natalja Piliusina. The Cowgirls have been ranked in the top 30 throughout the 2011 season.
Both teams return to action on Oct. 15 when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete at the Chile Pepper Invitational.
