Cowboys Take First At Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The top-ranked Oklahoma State men's cross country team won the team title Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival, hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Five All-Americans from last season finished in the top-10 to lead the Cowboys to their third-straight first-place finish this season, finishing 53 points ahead of second place Arkansas.
For the second-consecutive race, senior Colby Lowe led the Cowboys with a second place-finish, completing the 10,000-meter race in 29:20.2. Senior German Fernandez was right behind him, finishing third in 29:20.3. Sophomore Tom Farrell finished fourth, turning in a 29:23.4 performance.
Sophomore transfer Shadrack Kipchirchir finished eighth, completing the race in 29:45.7, while senior Johnathan Stublaski rounded out the Cowboys' scoring five, finishing in 29:48.4 to place 10th.
The No. 29 Cowgirls placed third in the event, led by sophomore Natalja Piliusina's 10th-place finish, as she completed the 6,000-meter race in 20:33.3. The Cowgirls' 123 team points put them behind first-place Texas and host Arkansas, who finished second.
Freshman Monika Juodeskaite finished the race in 21:10.0 to finish in 23rd-place. Senior Victoria Fratczak finished 26th with a time of 21:14.1, while senior Teran Mixon placed 28th with a time of 21:21.8. Junior Jackie Campos rounded out the Cowgirls' scoring five with a 21:38.0 effort to finish in 41st place.
Both teams will return to action on Oct. 29 when they compete at the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas.
