Cowgirl Netters Impressive in Waco

WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened play at the HEB Baylor Invitational Friday as the Cowgirls turned in strong performances with a 6-1 singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark.
“I'm really proud of our girls for the way they prepared for this tournament and their approach today,” coach Chris Young said. “This is a fun group to coach because they are willing to do what it takes. I'm excited to see them perform tomorrow against players who are some of the best in the Big 12 and the nation.”
Six Cowgirls were entered in the singles draw, with five advancing through the first two rounds to Saturday's round of 16.
Of the five who advanced, freshman Meghan Blevins was the only player who did not receive a first-round bye. The Charleston, S.C., native didn't need one, however, as she earned a dominating straight-set win over TCU's Molly Welsh, 6-0, 6-1.
The win marked the first collegiate victory for the freshman, who followed it with another two-set win over Baylor's Nicole Kosakowski, 7-5, 7-5, to advance to the round of 16.
Several other teammates joined Blevins in her commanding performance, as Mary Jeremiah, Malika Rose, Kanyapat Narattana and C.C. Sardinha all defeated their opponents in two sets.
The doubles contests were no different for the Cowgirls, with Blevins and Jeremiah, as well Narattana and Rose taking down their round of 16 opponents, 8-4 and 8-1, respectively, to move on to Saturday's quarterfinal.
The Cowgirl tennis team resumes play at the Baylor HEB Invitational Saturday morning, as five singles players and two doubles teams continue play in the main draws.
