Stillwater, Okla. -- Sammy Jo Diffendaffer went 4-for-5 with three runs scored in two games and the Oklahoma State softball team defeated Seminole State, 16-0 and 8-0, here Thursday evening in fall softball action. The Cowgirls finish the fall with a 7-1 record.
In the first game, freshman Hannah Bowen went 2-for-5 with four runs batted in, including an inside-the-park home run. She also went 2-for-4 with two runs in the second contest, going 4-for-9 on the evening with 5 RBIs and four runs scored.
Diffendaffer went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, including a perfect 3-for-3 in game one. Junior Tamara Brown went 3-for-4 at the plate, and made a spectacular play in left field. On a line drive over her head, she chased it down and grabbed the ball just as she hit the wall.
The Cowgirl pitching was equally effective. Morgan Hawkins threw a complete game to start off the twinbill, scattering four hits while walking one and striking out six SSC batters.
In the second contest, Simone Freeman threw a one-hit shutout, allowing a slow roller to second base in the third inning. Other than the infield single, the only other blemish on the night was a hit-by-pitch as she struck out six. In fact, only five balls made it out of the infield.
Oklahoma State will return to action next February as the Cowgirls open the 2012 season at the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic, Feb. 10-12, in Houston, Texas.
