Cowgirls Run Past Connors State, 8-0

Stillwater, Okla. -- Oklahoma State freshman Gessenia DeLaCruz hit a two-run home run and sophomore hurler Simone Freeman struck out 12 batters in five innings as the Cowgirls defeated Connors State 8-0 here Tuesday night in fall softball action.
OSU scored its first run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Chelsea Garcia singled and stole second. Julie Ward walked, and Tamara Brown hit a line shot to third base. The ball glanced off the CSC fielder's glove and into shallow left, allowing Garcia to score.
The Cowgirls added two more runs in the fourth on a double by freshman Hannah Bowen. DeLaCruz's home run over the fence in left field made the score 5-0. A Julie Ward RBI single in the bottom of the sixth made it 6-0, and Garcia scored on an error in the same frame to make it 7-0.
Amy Graham led off the seventh with a double down the leftfield line and later scored on a groundout by Sammy Jo Diffendaffer for the final 8-0 score.
Brown went 3-for-3 for the Cowgirls while Bowen, in her first action as a Cowgirl, went 2-for-5 with a two-run double. Garcia went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Freeman went 2-for-2 with a single and a double at the plate before taking the mound.
Morgan Hawkins started for Oklahoma State and threw five scoreless innings, scattering four hits while striking out four. Freeman allowed just two base hits in five innings and walked none.
Oklahoma State will wrap up the fall season on Thursday as the Cowgirls host Seminole State in two seven-inning games starting at 5 pm at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
