Fayetteville, Ark. -- Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team rebounded from its first loss of the fall season with an 8-0 shutout as OSU split a doubleheader with the Arkansas Razorbacks here Saturday afternoon. Arkansas won the first game, 7-4.
Kelsea Schultz went 2-for-3 in game one while Gessenia DeLaCruz scored three of the Cowgirls' four runs, but sophomore pitcher Morgan Hawkins gave up 11 hits, including three home runs, and OSU fell for the first time this fall. The first four Razorback hitters went 8-for-15 with six runs and seven runs batted in.
Game two went much better for the Cowgirls. Sophomore hurler Simone Freeman shut down the Razorback offense, allowing just three hits in seven innings while walking two and striking out eight. Meanwhile, the Cowgirl offense exploded, scoring four runs in the fourth and adding two in both the fifth and seventh innings.
Leftfielder Amy Graham went 2-for-4 in the contest with a double and three RBIs while designated player Tarah Ettinger went 3-for-4. Freshman Shelby Davis scored three runs for Oklahoma State as the Cowgirls went through five Arkansas pitchers.
The Cowgirls (3-1) will return to action next Wednesday as they host Rogers State in a 10-inning contest starting at 6 pm on Oct. 5.
