IRVING, Texas - After an impressive performance in the season-opening meet, Oklahoma State men's cross country athlete Tom Farrell was named the first Big 12 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the 2010 season, the conference announced today.
Farrell, a redshirt freshman from Carlisle, United Kingdom, received the honor for his outstanding race at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa, Okla.
Running in his first cross country event as a Cowboy, Farrell finished the four-mile course in first place with a time of 19:54, leading a trio of Cowboys across the line in the top three places.
The first-place finish anchored the Cowboys' 5-0 dual performance at the meet, where OSU defeated No. 12 Oklahoma, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, John Brown and Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Farrell is joined in his Big 12 Runner of the Week honor by Nebraska's Lara Crofford, who won the women's award. It is both of the athletes' first time to receive the honor.
