STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 296 on Monday during the second round of play at the Ping/Golfweek Preview to stay in first place with one round remaining at Karsten Creek.
The Cowboys entered the day with a nine-shot lead on the field at their home course, but were unable to take advantage of prime scoring conditions after a windy and cold opening round on Sunday. With a 36-hole total of 584, OSU stands one shot clear of Georgia Tech, which posted a 287 on Monday, and Georgia, which fired a 285 during its second round.
"We just had one of those days where we weren't very sharp," Cowboy head coach Mike McGraw said. "I was pretty proud of Kevin (Tway). I have walked with him before when he would have shot 75 instead of 70. He was saving shots and was confident on the greens. That is such a huge positive for this golf team."
"The rest of the guys all kind of found a day where they were kind of average or not even that good. It happens and they have to get themselves in the right frame of mind to come out and play a little better tomorrow."
Georgia's Hudson Swafford carded a 68 to move from 20th into first place in the individual race. With a 1-under total of 143, Swafford stands as the only player under par in the field and holds a two-shot lead over a quartet of players.
Three Cowboys finished the day in the top 10 with Peter Uihlein leading he way. The junior posted a 74 to stand at 2-over 146 and tied for sixth place.
Tway fired the low round of the day with his 70 to vault from a tie for 34th into a tie for ninth place at 147. The Edmond, Okla., native posted five birdies en route to his 2-under score.
Freshman Talor Gooch carded a 78 to dip from first into the group tied for ninth at 147, while sophomore Drew Page turned in his second-straight 74 to stand in a tie for 13th place at 148.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann finished with a 78 for a 151 total to come in tied for 31st place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round at 9:10 a.m. and will be grouped with Georgia Tech and Georgia.
