Cowboys Tied For Fifth At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened its fall season on Friday with a 286 team total to stand in a tie for fifth place at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The Cowboys' 6-over score knotted them with Indiana and Duke for the fifth spot. The trio finished the day one shot behind Alabama and six strokes behind co-leaders Florida and Augusta State, which carded even-par 280 totals.
Alabama's Bud Cauley posted a 4-under 66 to lead the individual race by one at the par-70, 7,205-yard layout.
Cowboy junior Peter Uihlein opened with a 69 to stand in a tie for eighth place. The 2010 U.S. Amateur champion birdied two of his first three holes before making the turn at even par. After a bogey at the 11th, Uihlein moved back under par with birdies at Nos. 14 and 16.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann and senior Kevin Tway each turned in 71s on the day to finish tied for 19th place. Hoffmann birdied three of his first six to go out with a 2-under 33 before posting a 3-over 38 on his inward nine. Tway carded his lone birdie of the day at the sixth before posting 11-striaght pars before a bogey at the closing 18th gave him a 1-over total for the day.
A pair of Cowboys, redshirt freshman Kevin Dougherty and true freshman Talor Gooch each made their collegiate debuts on Friday. Dougherty finished his day tied for 51st with an opening 75, while Gooch opened with a 76 to come in tied for 56th.
The Cowboys will begin their second round at 8:40 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with Alabama and Indiana.
