STILLWATER - The defending national champion Oklahoma State men's cross country team was tabbed as the No. 2 team in the country in the 2010 preseason rankings, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.
The Cowboys received the most first-place votes in the poll with seven and totaled 339 overall points, just 10 points behind No. 1 Stanford, who received four first-place votes.
Oklahoma State is the highest ranked school from the Big 12 Conference, which has more men's teams ranked in the top-30 than any other league in the country. Following OSU at No. 2 are No. 6 Colorado, No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 18 Iowa State and No. 28 Texas.
In addition to the high national ranking, the Cowboys top the list in the Midwest Region rankings, where they finished atop the standings in 2009.
Oklahoma State begins its national title defense Saturday, traveling to Tulsa, Okla., for the Hurricane Invitational at Mohawk Park. Following that event, the team returns to Stillwater for the Cowboy Jamboree Sept. 25, the oldest consecutively held cross country meet in the nation.
