Monaghan Advances to 1,500m Finals

DES MOINES, Iowa – Oklahoma State rising sophomore Taylor Monaghan clocked a personal-best 3:53.31 in the 1,500 meter prelims to qualify for tomorrow's finals at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships.
The Tulsa, Okla., native qualified ninth overall of the 12 competitors to advance to the next round. Monaghan's time was the sixth fastest of the two heats. Peter Callahan of Princeton was first with a 3:50.74.
Saturday's 1,500 meter finals are set to begin at 5:40 p.m.
Monaghan's time eclipses his previous personal best by more than a second. He notched a 3:54.69 at the Arkansas Twilight on April 30. This is only the fourth time Monaghan has suited up in the 1,500 meters as a Cowboy.
The USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships are open to any U.S. citizen who does not turn 20 years old during the 2010 calendar year. The 1,500 meter qualifying standard is 3:57.64.
