Monaghan Finishes Sixth at USATF Champs

DES MOINES, Iowa – Oklahoma State sophomore-to-be Taylor Monaghan placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships on Thursday at Drake Stadium.
The Tulsa, Okla., native clocked a time of 9:14.83 and finished ahead of 20 other competitors who qualified for the event.
Dakota Peachee, competing unattached, recorded a 9:03.43 to win the junior national championship. Monaghan and Virginia Tech's Jared Berman were the only competitors in the top six representing a university team.
The qualifying mark for the world junior championships in the event is 9:10.00 and was achieved by three competitors.
The USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships were open to United States citizens who do not turn 20 during the 2010 calendar year. To qualify for the 3,000 meter steeplechase, entrants had to clock a 9:38.00 during the 2010 season.
