AUSTIN, Texas - David Chirchir and Kendra Woodson were the lone runers for OSU today when they both competed at the 3,000 meter steeplechase in the NCAA preliminary round.
Chirchir finished 22nd in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:03.70. Chirchir ran a time of 9:12.85 at the Big 12 Championships just two weeks ago.
"He ran a pretty smart race today," Distance coach Brionne Yosten said. "He tried to make his way up, but didn't make it to the top group. But he still ran a solid race."
Woodson was not able to finish the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, but the coaches are proud of her effort.
"Kendra struggled a little with the heat today," Yosten said. "She competed hard but sometimes things like this happen. She has had a great year this year and we are proud of her."
The OSU track and field team will return to action tomorrow with the triple jump, 1,500 meter quarterfinals, and the 5,000 meter semifinals.
