Tucson, Ariz. -- Oklahoma State had three softball players represented on the NFCA Division I All-Midwest Region team, released today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Cowgirl third baseman Mariah Gearhart was named to the second team of the All-Midwest Region following a first-team selection last season. She is the first two-time choice since Shanel Scott was selected in 2005 and '07.
Two Cowgirl pitchers were named All-Midwest Region Second Team. Senior hurler Anna Whiddon, along with freshman pitcher Kat Espinosa, were both named all-region for the first time in their careers.
This marks the first time since 1999 that OSU has had three selections on an NFCA all-region squad. That year, Jaime Foutch, Jennifer Olival and Michelle Singer were all named to the first team.
Oklahoma State (43-14) faces Hofstra (43-10) in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament here Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. local time (6 p.m. CDT).
