IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State had six players named to the 2010 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Baseball Team, the league announced today.
The Cowboys had four players earn Academic All-Big 12 First Team accolades, marking the fourth-straight year that OSU has had at least four players named to the first team.
Juniors Kevin David (finance) and Dean Green (sports management) highlighted OSU's group of first-team honorees as both earned that distinction for the second consecutive year. Also earning spots on the first team were senior pitcher Brian Denneny (finance and accounting) and junior pitcher Brad Propst (secondary education – social studies).
Earning second-team honors for OSU were junior shortstop Tom Belza (marketing) and junior pitcher Thomas Keeling (finance and economics). Belza and Keeling are both two-time Academic All-Big 12 performers, with each earning first-team accolades in 2009.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, this year's baseball academic all-league squad consisted of 43 first team members combined with 26 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters. All position players nominated must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests, while pitchers are required to have at least one inning pitched per game played by the team or have appeared in 20 percent of their team's total games. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
