Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Five Oklahoma State Cowgirls have been named All-Big 12, the league office announced Friday afternoon. The total matches the most ever by a Cowgirl squad since the conference formed in 1996.
Junior second baseman Alysia Hamilton was named All-Big 12 First Team. She led the team in conference play with 14 hits and nine runs batted in. Hamilton was a second-team selection two years ago as a freshman.
Rookie pitcher Kat Espinosa was also named All-Big 12 First Team. The freshman hurler finished league play with a 7-2 record and a 1.63 earned run average. She is the first Cowgirl pitcher to be named first team since Lauren Bay in 2003 and is just the fifth OSU freshman to make the All-Big 12 First Team.
All-Big 12 Second Team honors went to senior pitcher Anna Whiddon along with sophomore first baseman Julie Ward and sophomore shortstop Chelsea Garcia. Ward was a second-team choice last season as a frosh, and it is the first conference honor for Whiddon and Garcia.
Fifty-two Cowgirls have been named All-Big 12 in the 15 years of the league's existence, including 28 first-team selections.
