STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith announced today that Nick Schenk from St. Mark's High School in Wilmington, Del., has signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for the Cowboys. Schenk projects as a 133-pounder at the collegiate level.
A three-time Delaware state champion, Schenk is ranked as the No. 3 wrestler nationally at the 130-pound weight class by Intermat. He finished his prep career with a 165-8 record that included a 41-1 mark his senior year. He won the title at the prestigious Beast of the East tournament his senior year and helped lead St. Mark's to a Delaware state high school team championship as well as the Virginia Duals team title that same year. Schenk's 165 career victories stands as the second-highest total in school history. He was recognized as the News-Journal wrestler of the year in 2010.
Additionally, Schenk earned All-America status with a fourth-place finish at the junior freestyle national championships in Fargo, N.D. prior to his senior year.
"Nick is a solid kid and it's exciting to us that we can get someone like him in the late signing period," OSU coach John Smith said. "He will give us some additional depth at 133 pounds."
Schenk chose Oklahoma State over offers from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois.
He joins Josh Kindig of Blue Mountain, Pa., the nation's No. 2-ranked 140-pounder, as incoming Oklahoma State signees. Schenk is the second high-profile Delaware recruit to choose the Cowboys in recent years, as Camden, Del., native and Caesar Rodney HS graduate Alex Meade was OSU's starter at 165 pounds as a redshirt freshman last season.
