Cowboys Even Series With Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State picked up its first Big 12 Conference road win of the season Saturday as the Cowboys evened their series with Missouri with a 10-7 triumph at Taylor Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 20-13 overall and 4-7 in league play, while the Tigers fell to 19-15 and 4-7 in the Big 12.
Tyler Lyons picked up the win on the mound for the Cowboys and in doing so moved into the top 10 on OSU's all-time wins list with the 22nd victory of his career. The senior southpaw worked 6.2 innings and racked up a season-high 11 strikeouts as he improved to 3-2 on the season.
Brad Propst came on in the ninth and earned his second save of the season, capping a day that also saw the junior blast the first home run of his OSU career.
Offensively OSU racked up 13 hits, four of those by Nico Rosthenhausler, who was also one of four Cowboys to collect multiple RBIs in the contest.
The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead as they rallied for three runs in the top of the first inning. After a two-out single by Rosthenhausler, Mark Ginther drilled a three-run home run, his team-leading seventh round tripper of the season, to give OSU a 3-0 lead.
After Mizzou tallied a run in the first, OSU's Davis Duren pushed the Cowboys' lead back to three with an RBI single in the second, a knock that extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
OSU held a 4-2 lead after three innings before the Cowboys erupted for six runs in the top of the fourth.
Dean Green got the big inning going for OSU with a leadoff single, and Eric Walker followed with a single of his own. Two batters later, Duren recorded his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly.
An RBI sacrifice bunt by Tom Belza gave the Cowboys a 6-2 lead, and a two-RBI single by Rosthenhausler put OSU up by six runs.
Up next, Propst pinch hit for an injured Ginther and crushed a two-run homer over the wall in left field in his first at bat of the season.
Lyons and OSU held the 10-2 lead until the bottom of the seventh when the Tigers began to make things interesting. The seventh saw Mizzou rally for four runs on five hits and drive Lyons from the game after a two-RBI single by Dane Opel made the score 10-5.
Ian McCarthy came out of the OSU bullpen, and after giving up an RBI single, the Cowboy freshman finally got the Cowboys out of the seventh inning by striking out Blake Brown.
The Tigers would mount another rally in the ninth. Back-to-back walks to Aaron Senne and Brett Nicholas to lead off the frame brought Propst to the mound, and the right-hander promptly struck out Andreas Plackis. After a fielder's choice resulted in the second out of the inning, Russell LaFleur brought home a run with a single to pull Mizzou to within 10-7.
Propst would close the door on the Tigers' comeback, however, when he struck out pinch-hitter Jonah Schmidt to end the game.
The two teams return to action for the series-deciding game Sunday at 1 p.m.
