The Basics
Oklahoma State's Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field teams return to action this Thursday and Friday at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Back to Mt. Sac
The Mt. Sac Relays, in their 52nd year, are one of the largest track and field competitions in the nation. The Relays are held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, which has played host to two Olympic Trials and has seen 20 world records in its time.
A Fast Start
Cowboys Johnathan Stublaski and John Kosgei are both in good position to qualify for the NCAA West Region Championships in the 1,500 meters.
Kosgei is in 11th on the West Outdoor Performance List, while Stublaski is in the No. 17 spot.
For the Cowgirls in the 800 meters, Mihaela Susa is 11th on the performance list and Kendra Woodson is 31st.
A New System
Gone is the four-region NCAA Championship system that has been used for the past seven years. The new system features two regional sites and a final site, essentially making the NCAA Championships a two-weekend affair.
There are no longer regional and automatic qualifying marks, instead the top 48 in each region will advance to the regional. Each round, starting with the regional will have a national component. The first round of the regionals will be known as the NCAA Championships first round.
