Castle Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State senior Megan Castle has been named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week for the period ending April 12, it was announced today by the league office. It is the first-such honor for the Newcastle, Okla., native.
Castle had two home runs last week, both solo shots and both game winners. She hit the game-winning home run to lead off the seventh inning at Missouri State in a 1-0 Cowgirl victory on Thursday. On Saturday against Iowa State, with the game tied 1-1 and one out in the bottom of the seventh, she hit a solo shot off the left-field foul pole to give OSU the win. It marked her second and third home runs of the season and she now has seven in her career. Castle also had a two-RBI single in the second win over the Cyclones on Sunday. For the week, she either scored or knocked in five of OSU's 10 runs while tallying a .417 batting average and .917 slugging percentage.
The right fielder is the fifth Cowgirl to receive a weekly league honor this season, joining player of the week honorees Mariah Gearhart (March 2), Julie Ward (March 8) and Chelsea Garcia (April 6). Anna Whiddon was the pitcher of the week on March 8. This marks just the fourth time in the history of the league that four different individuals from the same team have receive Big 12 Player of the Week honors in the same season.
Castle and the ninth-ranked Cowgirls will travel to Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. First pitch at the Hardesty Complex is set for 6 p.m.
