OSU's Ward, Whiddon Earn Big 12 Weekly Honors

STILLWATER, Okla. —Julie Ward and Anna Whiddon have been named Big 12 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week it was announced. This is the first career honor for both student-athletes. It is the first time since 2003 that OSU has had both the player and pitcher of the week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julie Ward, Oklahoma State, So., 1B, Altadena, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory
Ward had at least one hit in every game last week with her best offensive performance coming against Nevada. She accounted for all five runs batted in along with a double and a grand slam home run. In a win over No. 14 Louisville, Ward went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. She also scored the lone run for OSU against No. 11 Oklahoma. All six of Ward's hits during the week went for extra bases, including four doubles and two home runs in 12 at-bats (.500). She had a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .647 on-base percentage. Ward finished the week with 10 RBI and three runs scored.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Anna Whiddon, Oklahoma State, Sr., RHP, Huntington, Texas/Huntington
Whiddon went 4-0 on the weekend including a pair of wins over ranked opponents. She threw a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits by No. 14 Louisville while striking out 13 Cardinals. She threw a complete-game one-hit shutout against 11th-ranked Oklahoma, striking out four Sooners. She also threw six shutout innings against North Texas and gave up one run on two hits in six innings against Nevada. Whiddon recorded an ERA of 0.81 while allowing just three runs on eight hits in 26 innings, striking out 30 and walking seven. The Huntington, Texas native held opponents to a .095 batting average last week.
