MINNEAPOLIS - Oklahoma State could not get anything go offensively Sunday at the Dairy Queen Classic as the Cowboys lost a 3-0 contest to Loyola Marymount in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
OSU managed just three hits, all of them singles by Davis Duren, and failed to advance a runner past first base, and Thomas Keeling was the tough-luck loser on the mound as the Cowboys fell to 4-2 on the season.
Keeling racked up 11 strikeouts, one shy of his career high, in 6.1 innings of work. The junior southpaw allowed two runs on five hits.
LMU (3-8) plated its first run in the fourth inning. Shon Roe singled with two outs and promptly stole second, and Joel Licon brought him home with a single to put the Lions up 1-0.
The Lions tacked on another run in the sixth when Colton Plaia delivered his first home run of the season, a solo shot over the wall in left field.
The game's final run came in the ninth when LMU added an insurance run on an RBI single off the bat of Matt Lowenstein.
LMU hurlers John Lally and Alex Gillingham combined for the shutout. Lally worked seven innings and struck out five for his first win of the season, while Gillingham closed out the final two frames for the save.
OSU's Tom Belza saw his career-best hitting streak of 17 games come to an end after an 0-for-3 performance.
OSU returns to action Friday when the Cowboys open a four-game homestand against UMass at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. It will be the first of 12 home games in 13 days for the Pokes.
