BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – Oklahoma State's Cowboy cross country team sent three runners to Sunday's IAAF World Cross Country Championships with Ryan Vail turning in a 45th-place finish in the senior race.
Cowboy freshmen Tom Farrell and Michael Lynch finished 50th and 84th, respectively in the junior race.
It was the second-straight year Oklahoma State had entrants in both the senior and junior race, as Vail competed in the senior race last year and Cowboy sophomore German Fernandez suited up for the United States team in the junior race.
Vail, who served as the United States team captain, was the second American to cross the line, finishing in 35:04 and 2:04 behind Kenya's Joseph Eduya, who won the senior race.
The Gresham, Ore., native was the first American to cross the line in the senior race a year ago in Amman, Jordan, when he finished 33rd.
Farrell, competing for the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team, finished in 24:33 and 2:14 behind the junior race champion, Kenya's Caleb Mwanqanqi Ndiku.
Lynch was the fifth American to finish the race, clocking a time of 25:23. The Columbia, Md., native was 3:16 behind the race winner at his first IAAF World Cross Country Championships.
