CLEARWATER, Fla. — The No. 18 Oklahoma State softball team picked up two wins in the USF-The Game Tournament on Saturday as they beat Florida Gulf Coast 6-2 and host South Florida 8-0 in six innings. Pitchers Anna Whiddon and Kat Espinosa both threw complete games in their wins. Whiddon had 14 strikeouts against FGCU and Espinosa threw a two-hitter shutout against USF.
In the first game of the day against FGCU, Oklahoma State (25-7) executed the fundamentals to score in the first inning as the leadoff batter, Mariah Gearhart bunted her way onto first. She stole second and was advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Katelyn Bright. Alysia Hamilton stepped up and hit a deep fly ball to center field to score Gearhart from third.
The Cowgirls added another run in the third when Chelsea Garcia led the inning off with a hit. After a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Anchors and a stolen base, Garcia was on third. She scored when Bright hit a single to right field.
FGCU tied the game in the fourth inning when they got four hits, including back-to-back doubles, to score two runs. However, OSU responded in the fifth to score four runs to regain and keep the lead.
Bright hit an RBI-single, Hamilton smacked a two RBI-single and Tamara Brown added another RBI-single.
