Baton Rouge, La. — The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team lost its final game of the LSU Tiger Classic this weekend, falling to Michigan 8-1 as OSU completed the weekend with a 1-4 record. Two of OSU's four losses came at the hands of the fourth-ranked Wolverines while the other two came against No. 19 LSU.

Mariah Gearhart went 2-for-3 for the Cowgirls, collecting two of Oklahoma State's four hits on the day. Shortstop Chelsea Garcia and right-fielder Sammy Jo Diffendaffer both went 1-for-3 and combined to score OSU's only run of the day.

With two outs in the top of the second, Diffendaffer hit a double to right field. Garcia followed with a double of her own, this one down the left-field line, scoring Diffendaffer. It would be OSU's only lead of the game.

Freshman Kat Espinosa started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw two scoreless innings to start the game. However, junior Sarah Odom came on in relief to start the bottom of the third. The Wolverines took advantage, scoring a run on a walk and two base hits, including an RBI double.

Michigan took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth, scoring a pair of runs on a fielder's choice and an RBI single, then scored a third to make it 4-1 on a fielding error by Garcia. The Wolverine's scored three more in the fifth on consecutive base hits, then added one more in the sixth.

Oklahoma State (6-4) will open the home portion of the 2010 schedule on Tuesday when the Cowgirls host North Texas at 5 p.m. at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
