STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — James Anderson matched his season high with 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Oklahoma State started a four-game stretch against ranked teams by beating No. 22 Baylor 82-75 on Saturday.
Keiton Page added 22 points for the Cowboys (19-7, 7-5 Big 12), who have won three straight and sit squarely on the NCAA tournament bubble. Their next three games will be at Texas, at home against Kansas and at Texas A&M.
Tweety Carter went 7 of 12 from 3-point range - hitting three from long range in the final 2 minutes - and scored 25 points for Baylor (20-6, 7-5), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. The Bears had won four of their past six meetings against Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State went 14 of 25 from 3-point range with Page and Anderson both going 5 of 8. It was third straight game the Cowboys had at least 10 3s.
Page has averaged 20 points over the last four games.
Anderson, the conference's leading scorer, gave the Cowboys the lead for good at 60-59 with two free throws with 7:11 left. With Oklahoma State up 65-63, Obi Muonelo hit a 3-pointer and assisted on a basket by Matt Pilgrim as part of a 7-2 run that gave the Cowboys a 72-65 lead with 3:17 left.
Carter's 3-pointer pulled Baylor within 75-69 with 1:52 left, but Pilgrim jammed home a miss by Anderson at the other end with 1:23 left.
Carter, who matched his career high for 3-pointers, hit two more from behind the arc, but Anderson responded both times by making two free throws.
LaceDarius Dunn, Baylor's leading scorer, missed a good part of the second half because of foul trouble. He finished with 14 points but had four 3-pointers to give him 269 for his career, breaking the school record held by Aundre Branch. The Bears finished 12 of 22 from 3-point range.
Pilgrim had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma State.
Ekpe Udoh had 11 points and 15 rebounds for Baylor, while Quincy Acy added 11 points.
OSU Head Coach Travis Ford
On the game
“I don't know how much fun I had watching it, but it was a very intense, uptempo ballgame. Both teams made big plays and did everything they could to win the game. Baylor is good. They're really good because they make you pay for every mistake.”
On Baylor
“They have so many guys that can hit shots. If you leave them open or if you make a mistake the ball is going to the inside. They play above the rim. A lot of things they do well are the same things that we don't do so well as far as playing above the rim.”
On the Cowboys' effort
“Our guys just really battled, played possession by possession and I'm really proud of the kind of effort they put in to win this game.”
On freshman point guard Fred Gulley
“Fred did a great job defensively today just wearing down Dunn and trying to distract him. He lost him a couple of times and when that happens he'll make you pay, but without question Fred played hard and did a great job defensively.”
On junior forward Matt Pilgrim
“He's playing good basketball right now because he's playing to his strengths. Matt can score around the basket, he can block shots and he can defend because he has great quickness and great length.”
OSU Junior Guard James Anderson
On Baylor's size
I do not feel like we needed to hit a bunch of threes, we just had a lot of wide open shots and we took the shots that were there. We did not force threes up and just took good shots. We played as a team and moved the ball on offense and that created good shots.
On playing team that runs a zone
The way that we move the ball and the way that we play is we try to get the ball inside then kick it out. Our post man and Obi did a good job creating each other shots and creating good shots for themselves.
Keiton Page on shooting threes
The first time we went down there the zone gave us a little trouble and started forcing things. The last few days we have worked on being patient with the ball and moving the ball around and getting it inside out.
