The Basics
The Oklahoma State Cowboy and Cowgirl track & field teams travel to Norman, Okla., for the Sooner Open I at the Mosier Indoor Track Facility on Saturday.
It's Automatic
Colby Lowe hit an NCAA automatic mark in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:45.01, the second-best time in the country for 2010. German Fernandez's automatic mark came in the 3,000 meters in a time of 7:51.02. His time is the third-best time in the nation for 2010.
For the Cowgirls, Felicity Milton posted the fifth-best time in the nation in the 5,000 meters on her way to an NCAA automatic mark.
All of those marks were notched at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
Making Provisions
Sophomore Colby Lowe and freshman Tom Farrell hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the 3,000 meters on Jan. 22 at the Razorback Invitational. Farrell improved on his provisional time at the Husky Classic.
Sophomore Raul Botezan hit his first NCAA provisional mark as a Cowboy with a 4:00.73 in the mile.
Cowgirl Mihaela Susa also notched an NCAA provisional mark in the 3,000 meters in Seattle.
Competition Was Stiff in Seattle
The Husky Classic wasn't a meet for the faint at heart when it came to distance running.
Eight of the top-10 times in the men's 5,000 meters were posted at the Husky Classic.
In the 3,000 meters, six of the top-10 times were recorded.
In the women's 5,000 meters, nine of the top-10 times were posted in Seattle.
