IRVING – Oklahoma State's record-breaking 2010 season reached another milestone Tuesday with the selection of nine Cowboys to the All-Big 12 First Team, along with Mike Gundy as the coach of the year.
Heading the list of honorees is the top set of skill players and specialists in the league with OSU players earning first-team recognition at receiver, quarterback, running back, fullback, kicker and punter, among others. OSU running back mates Kendall Hunter and Bryant Ward have been named first-team all-league for the second time in their careers (Hunter in 2008 and Ward in 2009).
OSU's nine first-team honorees are the most by any team and breaks the former school high for all-conference picks. The 1984 team had eight first-team honorees.
The OSU All-Big 12 First Team picks include offensive lineman Levy Adcock, kicker Dan Bailey, receiver Justin Blackmon, running back Kendall Hunter, linebacker Orie Lemon, defensive back Andrew McGee, punter Quinn Sharp, fullback Bryant Ward and quarterback Brandon Weeden.
Adcock is a first-year starter at right tackle. The Claremore native saw limited duty last season for OSU, but evolved into a physical tackle that helped OSU to its No.10 national rank in fewest sacks allowed.
Bailey, a Lou Groza Award finalist, leaves OSU as the school's all-time leading scorer. He was also the Big 12 special teams player of the year.
Blackmon is also the Big 12 offensive player of the year after his phenomenal season.
Lemon, who lost the 2009 season to injury, is the first Cowboy linebacker since Greg Richmond in 2003 to be named first-team all-conference. McGee is another all-conference Cowboy who is in his first year as a starter. McGee and Lemon are the first Cowboy teammates named to the first-team defensive squad since Richmond and Darrent Williams in 2003.
Weeden is OSU's first all-league quarterback in the modern era. He already owns single-season records for total offense, passing yards, touchdown passes and completions.
Defensive end Ugo Chinasa is a second-team all-league selection.
