STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics) - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team knocked off New Mexico, 74-65, in double overtime during the championship game on Saturday night at the UNM Thanksgiving Classic in front of 7,528 fans inside The Pit.
The victory was OSU's 100th under sixth-year head coach Kurt Budke, who logged his first win as the Cowgirls' head coach in the same building.
OSU (6-0) struggled offensively in the first half, as the Lobos (3-2) led for the entire first half. UNM led by as many as eight before the Cowgirls began to get on track and close the gap. OSU trailed 27-26 at the break.
The Cowgirls took their first lead of the night on a layup by Toni Young on their third possession of the second half. Over the final 20 minutes, the lead changed hands four times and the score was knotted on seven occasions with neither team leading by more than four.
With the score tied at 49 apiece and 1:14 remaining, the Lobos took a two-point lead on a pair of free throws before Young hit a jumper to tie the game before UNM answered with a jumper of their own. However, freshman Vicky McIntyre sent the contest into overtime with a layup with 24 seconds remaining.
OSU led by as many as five twice in the first overtime, but could not put the game away as Young missed a jumper as time expired to force the second overtime.
After New Mexico tied the game with 4:14 left in the second extra period, the Cowgirls reeled off the final nine points of the night to earn their third in-season tournament title under Budke.
Young finished with a career-high 25 points and was joined on the all-tournament team by freshman Tiffany Bias, who scored 12 points to go with nine assists.
McIntyre added a career-high 20 points of her own.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Dec. 2 when they host UALR in Stillwater at 7 p.m.
