Anaheim, Calif. -- Keiton Page scored a career-high 29 points and Oklahoma State's defense held Murray State to just 49 total as the Cowboys defeated the Racers 66-49 here Sunday afternoon in the third-place game of the 76 Classic. The junior guard was 10-of-13 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point arc.
Oklahoma State led 10-0 early, connecting on four of its first five shots while Murray State missed its first six. The Racers crept back into it and took their first lead of the game at 16-14 at the 9:10 mark. Neither team played well offensively as OSU turned the ball over nine times in the first half and the Racers shot just 35 percent from the floor. After scoring 10 points in the first 3-1/2 minutes, the Cowboys scored just 11 in the final 16-1/2. MSU led 23-21 at halftime.
OSU started out the second period in a similar fashion, scoring the first 11 points after intermission to take a nine-point lead. A pair of three pointers and a layup by Page fueled the spark as the Cowboys went up 32-23. Murray State cut the lead to five with just under 15 minutes to play, but OSU expanded the lead into double digits just two minutes later and the lead never dwindled smaller than seven the rest of the game.
Oklahoma State played much better in the second half, and the statistics proved it. The Cowboys committed nine turnovers in the first period but just two in the second. OSU also shot 53.6 percent in the second stanza. The Pokes outrebounded Murray State by five in the second half and outscored the Racers by 19 at 45-26.
Oklahoma State (5-1) will next be in action on Wednesday, Dec. 1, as the Cowboys host the Central Arkansas Bears of the Southland Conference at 7 pm inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
