Post-game Quotes
Oklahoma State 66, Murray State 49
Oklahoma State Head Coach Travis Ford
“We had a great overall team effort. Obviously Keiton (Page) had a big night, something he's capable of doing on any given night. It's even more impressive, because we know teams are going out there trying to stop him. Overall I thought everyone gave us contributions. It was a great win because we have so much respect for Murray State. I do personally, cause my dad played at Murray, my mom cheered at Murray, my sister cheered at Murray, I grew up about an hour from Murray, I always dreamed of playing at Murray to be honest with you, that's where I always wanted to play. I didn't talk to my team a whole lot about it. I got a lot of respect for the tradition of Murray State. “
“For a team that has accomplished as much as that particular team has from the NCAA Tournament runs to everything that they have accomplished. They are a very experienced team, for us to get this win tonight is a good win for our team. We got out of the blocks extremely well and then we got into foul trouble. Keiton (Page) and Marshall (Moses) got into foul trouble which is not our greatest scenario when that happens. But we were able to just hang in there; it's amazing how at any point it could have gone the other way in the first half. We just kept hanging in there and to be down by two at halftime, I was very pleased with that and then we started the second half the way we needed to. We took care of the ball much better in the second half. “
on Keiton Page's 29 points
“It definitely helps, but we can't expect anyone to get 29 every night. That's a lot to expect from anybody.”
on 76 Classic
“We wanted to use this (tournament) to find out who we were. This was all top notch competition, top notch competition. Every team in this has strength, a major strength. To come out of here 2-1, we're happy with that. I got a little better understanding of who my team is. This was a successful trip for us. ESPN did such a great job hosting this.”
Oklahoma State player Keiton Page
“I came out tonight more relaxed. My teammates did a great job at screening and getting me open. They just did a good job tonight helping me, setting good screens and getting me good looks.”
Murray State Head Coach Billy Kennedy
“We played well in the first half but didn't execute defensively in the second. We have to give them credit. Once Page got hot and started hitting tough shots they really started to get going. We just aren't consistent enough to compete with them.”
on becoming consistent
“We need guys to step forward. Our field goal percentage isn't good and we need to be able to balance everything. We don't have a 20 point scorer every game so we have to be consistent. Today we missed lots of open looks and had no production from our bench. Dante (Poole) averaged four or five points for us, but came into the tournament as our leading scorer. If we get 40 good minutes of basketball we can be very good. Right now, we are only getting about 25. We need better consistency in chemistry and from our bench.”
on the role of the offense
“We have such a poor field goal percentage and we have to fix it. We wanted Ivan (Aska) to be more of a low post presence, but he kept taking shots from the perimeter. We did some good things, but just aren't consistent enough.”
