Cowgirls Travel To Kansas State
STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 4 Oklahoma State equestrian team travels to Manhattan, Kan., to take on the Kansas State Wildcats Saturday.
Last Time Out
The Cowgirls are coming off a slim 14-11 defeat at the hands of the second-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in Bryan, Texas, last Saturday. Marissa Dalton and Christy McElreath picked up MVP honors for the western team as the Pokes won the reining category, 3-2.
About The Opponent
The seventh-ranked Wildcats are 4-2 and coming off an 11-9 victory over South Carolina. They have won three straight shows after falling to the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs early in the season.
Cowgirls In The Rankings
Oklahoma State is ranked fourth in the nation according to the Women's Intercollegiate National Coaches Poll released today. All three of the Cowgirls' opponents were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the show.
The Pokes debuted the season in the No. 3 spot. They received 50 points in the initial poll, 23 points behind top-ranked Georgia.
Horsemanship
Riding for the Cowgirls in horsemanship are seniors Ashley Kennedy, Lauren Olson and Courtney Whitacre, junior Mamie Tomlin, sophomore Marissa Dalton and freshmen Mackenzie Fugitt, Katie Ralph and Lauren Halvorson. OSU is 3-1 in horsemanship this year.
Reining
Riding for the Cowgirls in reining are senior Bri Parnell, juniors Caroline Daniels and Rachel Houchin, sophomores Christy McElreath and Taylor New and freshmen Jenna Blumer and Max Clason. The Pokes stand at an undefeated 4-0 record in reining this year. Through four shows, they have won by a combined score of 15-4.
Equitation Over Fences
The Cowgirls will show three true freshmen in Sammy Elser, Samantha Harrison and Chelsey Zulia in equitation over fences. The newcomers will be joined by veterans Erin Prutow, Alice White and Jordan White. OSU is 2-2 in the discipline this season.
Equitation On The Flat
Alice and Jordan White will both see their second action of the day in equitation on the flat. They will be joined by sophomores Andrea Callahan, Ellie Sparks and Haydan Vosburgh and freshmen Ali Rose and Andrea Robbins. The Cowgirls are 0-2-2 in the discipline this season, with both losses coming by just one point.
