Cowgirls Host Delaware State
STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 4 Oklahoma State equestrian team (3-2) hosts the Delaware State Hornets at Animal Science Arena Saturday.
Last Time Out
The Cowgirls knocked off the seventh-ranked Kansas State Wildcats, 12-7, in Manhattan last weekend. The western team improved to 4-1 on the year with a 6-4 victory.
About The Opponent
The Hornets earned three MVPs but fell short at Tennessee-Martin, 9-6, last week. They received two votes in the latest poll.
Cowgirls In The Rankings
Oklahoma State is ranked fourth in the nation according to the Women's Intercollegiate National Coaches Poll released today. All three of the Cowgirls' opponents were ranked in the top 10 at the time of the show.
The Pokes debuted the season in the No. 3 spot. They received 50 points in the initial poll, 23 points behind top-ranked Georgia.
Season's Greetings
Saturday's show will mark the end of the fall competition slate for Oklahoma State. They will break for the holidays and be back in action next semester when they host Big 12 foe Kansas State on January 29.
Staying Spotless
Four of the Cowgirls' western team riders enter the weekend without a loss on their record. In horsemanship, redshirt freshman Lauren Halvorson claims a spotless 5-0 record while senior Ashley Kennedy has three ties in head-to-head competition for a 2-0-3 record. Caroline Daniels has a 5-0 record in reining, while fellow junior Rachel Houchin has one tie to claim a 4-0-1 record in the discipline.
Horsemanship
Riding for the Cowgirls in horsemanship are seniors Ashley Kennedy and Courtney Whitacre; junior Mamie Tomlin; sophomore Marissa Dalton and freshman Lauren Halvorson. OSU is 4-1 in horsemanship this year.
Reining
Riding for the Cowgirls in reining are senior Bri Parnell; juniors Caroline Daniels and Rachel Houchin; sophomore Christy McElreath and freshman Jenna Blumer. The Pokes stand at an undefeated 5-0 record in reining this year. Through five shows, they have won by a combined score of 18-6.
Equitation Over Fences
Seniors Alice White and Erin Prutow; sophomore Ellie Sparks; and freshmen Sammy Elser and Samantha Harrison will represent the Pokes in equitation over fences. The freshman duo each picked up a win in the discipline in Manhattan last week, with Harrison earning her first MVP of the season. The Cowgirls are 3-2 in fences this year.
Equitation On The Flat
White and Sparks will see their second action of the day in equitation on the flat, with junior Jordan White and freshmen Ali Rose and Andrea Robbins joining them. The flat team picked up their first victory of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats last week.
