COLUMBUS, Ohio - Oklahoma State's men's golf team earned its second-straight title on Tuesday, coming from behind to win the inaugural Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Scioto Country Club.
OSU entered its final round on Tuesday two shots behind Arkansas at the par-70, 7,140-yard layout. The Cowboys closed with a 284 final round to finish with a 24-over total of 864 and six shots clear of Illinois. Texas was third at 871.
After winning the Ping/Golfweek Preview two weeks ago, the top-ranked Cowboys have now finished first or second in all three of their starts this fall.
Illinois' Luke Guthrie closed with a 65 to finish at 5-under 205 to win the individual title by three shots over OSU's Peter Uihlein.
The Cowboy junior finished in the top two for the third-straight event, firing a final-round 67 to post his second runner-up finish in a row. Uihlein birdied his opening hole and followed with pars over his next seven holes. After making his lone bogey of the day at the ninth, the Orlando, Fla., native birdied Nos. 10, 12 and 14 to come in at 3-under 32 on his back nine. Uihlein's finish extended his string of top-two finishes in collegiate events to six events dating back to last season.
Senior Kevin Tway posted his second-straight top 10 of the season, claiming sole possession of seventh place at 216 after signing for a third-round 71.
Junior Morgan Hoffmann tallied his first top 10 of the year, tying for 10th place at 218 after posting a 73.
Freshman Talor Gooch matched the best finish of his young career, tying for 21st place at 223 after carding a 73 of his own.
Ian Davis wrapped up his first collegiate start with a 74 to finish tied for 36th place at 228.
The Cowboys will be back in action on October 24 when they travel to Windermere, Fla., to defend their title at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate.
