Cowgirl Tennis Knocks Off Saint Louis

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team completed its dual-season opening weekend Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Saint Louis.
The Cowgirls started the day with a dominant performance in doubles play, winning all three matches by a combined score of 24-10.
In doubles, Alisa Buslaieva and Iryna Khatsko knocked off Hailee Elmore and Mia Elmore, 8-4, at the No. 1 position, newcomers Sara Meghoufel and Malika Rose defeated Casey Miller and Sara Septien, 8-3, at the No. 2 spot and Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Leyla Simmons earned an 8-3 win over Kaisa Tomalak and Caitlin McKenna at No. 3.
Singles play wasn't much different for Oklahoma State, who won five of the six singles matches of the day.
Meghoufel earned a win in a tight three-set match with Miller at the No. 2 spot, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4), while Buslaieva, Khatsko, Rose and Cristello each earned wins in straight sets at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions, respectively.
“It's always nice to get the first win of the season,” coach Chris Young said. “Our doubles today was much better, and we are giving a good effort on each court. Saint Louis is a much improved team and the two matches this weekend will help us understand where we need to improve to reach our goals this season.”
The Cowgirls return to action on Jan. 30, when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to face Oral Roberts.
