The Basics
The Oklahoma State women's tennis team is set to open the 2010 dual season this weekend, as the Cowgirls take on Arkansas at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Saint Louis at 10 a.m. Sunday. Both matches will be played at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
About the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State is playing its first dual matches of the 2010 season. The Cowgirls return five letterwinners from last year's squad, which finished with a 13-12 record and reached the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinal.
The Arkansas match will also serve as the debut dual match for first-year coach Chris Young, who spent his last five years at Wichita State.
"I am excited to begin this new era at OSU this weekend,” Young said. “Our girls have worked hard, and Arkansas will be a great test of how much we have improved and where we need to make improvements to have a successful season."
About the Opponents
Arkansas and Saint Louis open their dual seasons as well Saturday. The Razorbacks take on the Cowgirls at 1 p.m. before facing Saint Louis at 5 p.m. The Razorbacks are ranked No. 19 in the ITA team rankings and are coming off of Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen appearances in the NCAA tournament the last two seasons. Saint Louis returns four letterwinners from a squad that finished 13-11 in 2009.
Oklahoma State owns a 10-1 series advantage over the Razorbacks, while its match against Saint Louis will be the first time the teams have met.
Cowgirls Ready to Go
The pair of dual matches this weekend will serve as a chance for returners like Nataliya Shatkovskaya Sasha Belova to get back in the swing of things, but will also serve as an opportunity for some new Cowgirls to make their first impression on Oklahoma State tennis. Junior transfer Sarah Meghoufel, as well as freshman Malika Rose both look to make an immediate impact on the program.
Up Next
After their match against Saint Louis Sunday, the Cowgirls will head to Tulsa, Okla., to take on Oral Roberts on January 30.
