STILLWATER, Okla. - For the second time this season, Oklahoma State freshman 165-pounder Alex Meade has been recognized as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, it was announced today.
Owner of a 21-4 record this year that includes a 9-1 mark in dual meets, Meade added another highly-ranked victim to his hit list with a 5-3 victory over No. 4 Ryan Morningstar of Iowa last Saturday. Following the same formula as his win over then-No. 2 Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota earlier in the year, Meade scored the first points of the bout when he shot in on Morningstar's leg and finished the takedown early in the first period. Meade then added another takedown in the third period to finish the match.
In his first year wrestling at the collegiate level, Meade has three wins over ranked opponents. He is the only wrestler to earn Big 12 Wrestler of the Week multiple times over this year.
Meade and the fourth-ranked Cowboys host No. 2 Iowa State at 2 p.m. this Sunday. Meade will have another opportunity to prove himself in that dual, as he is scheduled to face No. 4 Cyclone Jon Reader in the 165-pound bout.
